Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
